IGGI Games Research Centre to Launch new Research / Industry Conference

IGGI (Intelligent Games and Game Intelligence) is a games-focussed academic research centre across the Universities of York, Essex and Goldsmiths working in close collaboration with industry (with £12 million funding from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and industrial partners to fund 55 PhD students over 8 years).

IGGI works in close collaboration with Digital Creativity Labs (DC Labs), with researchers in DC Labs supervising many IGGI students. 

IGGI and DC Labs are having notable research success in the following 3 theme areas:-

  • AI Decision Making and Machine Learning.
  • AI-Augmented Design.

These themes will be covered in depth in a 2 day IGGI conference, on September 14th and 15th at the University of York’s new Spring Lane Building – see for more details.

The conference will show and present cutting edge research by IGGI academic members combined with talks by external speakers.

Keynote speakers include:-

  • Jo Twist from UKIE
  • Katja Hofmann from Microsoft Research
  • Samim Winiger from
  • Mary Flanagan from Tiltfactor.

As part of the launch of this conference, IGGI and DC Labs have a stand at Develop Conference in Brighton in the Expo, and will be showing demos and meeting companies and academics interested in collaborating (for example in working with PhD students directly).  Teams from both research centres will be there for the two Expo days at stand B22.
