DC Labs is supporting StreetLife York, an exciting project funded by the UK Government Community Renewal Fund to explore new ways to revitalise and diversify York’s Coney Street.
Running throughout summer 2022, StreetLife York draws inspiration from the city’s rich history and heritage and vibrant creative communities, and involves businesses, the general public, and other stakeholders to shape the future of the high street.
The project involves exhibitions, events, workshops and immersive experiences to explore ways to restore the historic connections between the street and the River Ouse, make creative, flexible use of high street buildings, and put the local community at the heart of regeneration projects.
Visit the StreetLIfe York website to find out more about upcoming events, or drop into the StreetLife Hub at 29-31 Coney Street to explore the history of one of York's most familiar thorougthfares and experience one of three immersive VR experiences.
Produced by York-based VIDAVEO, the VR experiences include 'The Street Cries of old York', 'A History of the York Press' and 'Exploring York's controversial disability access issues' where individuals can experience navigating the city from the perspective of people with disabilities and visual impairments.
StreetLife York is led by the University of York in partnership with the City of York Council (including Make It York/My City Centre), York Civic Trust, York Music Venues Network, and creative practitioners including Thin Ice Press.
