Dr Joe Cutting

Department of Theatre, Film, TV and Interactive Media
University of York

Joe's research uses experiments to investigate how different game designs create different experiences for people. During his PhD Joe investigated how different game designs work to hold and focus players’ attention and he also measured how much cognitive effort they were putting into playing those games.

Before starting his PhD Joe spent many years creating digital exhibits for museums, including working for the Science Museum in London.

At DC Labs he will be investigating how games create interest and curiosity and considering how these insights can be applied to game playing AI agents.
